Gingerbread
Men adapted from The Fannie Farmer Cookbook
1/2 cup molasses
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 tsp allspice
3 tbsp margarine
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 tbsp soy milk
1/2 tsp cinnamon
2 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2-1 tsp powdered ginger
Preheat the
oven to 350 degrees and mist some cookie sheets with non-stick cooking
spray.
Heat the
molasses to the boiling point. Then, add the sugar, margarine, and milk.
Mix the flour with the baking soda, salt, and the spices. Add dry ingredients
to the first mixture and blend well.
Add a few
tablespoons of water, enough so that the dough holds together and handles
easily. Flour the surface and roll or pat the dough about 1/4 inch thick.
Cut into large or small gingerbread men or other shape. Bake for 5-7 minutes.
When cool,
frost with frosting (just mix 2 ½ Cups confectioners sugar with
3 Tbsp of liquid and beat until creamy) and decorate with candies, raisins,
etc.
